“It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, God’s job to judge, and my job to love.” -Billy Graham
What’s something unique about you? I love Converse and plan to wear them until I’m 80. I wear them most days in most situations, and I even recently pulled off wearing them to a gala. I also love Jeeps with no doors and frothy coffee.
Hello, I’m Noelle Beck, and I love Akron! I love seeing all God is doing in our city! I have had the privilege to see some of what God is doing through First Glance for the past 18 years. I continue to be so amazed that God uses us to reconcile people to himself. 2 Corinthians 5:19 says, “That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”
For those who don’t know, First Glance is a youth center in the Kenmore area of Akron. We host 10 programs that allow us to reach 900 teens and young adults in our community. First Glance’s programs are simply a way to interact with teens, give them a safe space they feel like they can just be. The reason I believe the students continue to come back is because of the relational connection. First Glance thrives at becoming family to our students… many of them calling our volunteers mom and dad, volunteers attending outside activities, and some as simple as eating dinner family style. We love them like family and we want to encourage their potential!
First Glance loves these youth so much that we desire for them to understand the hope and love God has for them, therefore our mission is: “To connect students and their communities to Christ and the Church through real, loving, non-threatening avenues.” And after 18 years we have so many stories of what God has done! Students who have started following him, and even more exciting they are now leading others to follow Jesus as well! It doesn’t get much better than that!
